Abstract

The field of education has been no exception to the influence of the ever-evolving advancements brought by technology. The implications of smart technology and its inherent tools bestow several benefits and challenges for educational institutions, educators and students alike. This chapter is an attempt to delve deeper into the specific benefits and challenges of integrating wearable technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the teaching-learning process while also offering a snapshot of the concurrent use of both in an educational setting. Substantial research in the field stands evidence of the individual and combined use of wearable technology and AI in education to offer opportunities for improved student engagement, personalized feedback for students and collaborative learning while simultaneously presenting valid discussion points on the potential pitfalls such as data privacy issues, affordances and training needs of educators. Some recommendations on overcoming such challenges have been made and include the active role of educational institutions, educators and learners.
