Refers to the confirmation of certain characteristics of an object, person, or organization. This confirmation is often, but not always, provided by some form of external review, education, assessment, or audit. Accreditation is a specific organization’s process of certification (Wikipedia).

Abstract

The purpose of this chapter is to present existing research about competency-based approach curricula and its implications on the higher education system. At first, a broad European framework about harmonization and lifelong learning is presented. Second, competence-based learning is explored and its consequences on interdisciplinary and authentic learning situations are analyzed. Finally, some challenges for higher education institutions are presented with the ways in which some of these institutions are resolving them.

Decision Support Approach for Assessing of Rail Transport: Methods Based on AI and Machine Learning
Certification is the recognition by an official technical service or body that a function, equipment, or system obeys national, European or international regulations. This involves evaluating the system's compliance with the applicable requirements which are generally specified in a “regulatory framework” which includes a set of legislative and regulatory texts as well as certain recognized recommendations. In the area of railway safety, certification is essentially based on the assessment and analysis of accident risks due to insufficient protective equipment in a particular event configuration combined with a given geographic configuration.

International Standardization in Tourism Services: Tool to Reduce and Restart Tourism in the Post-COVID-19 Time
An official document attesting to a status or level of achievement. Some tourism establishments, especially hotels, have begun to display certification insignia (especially according to ISO 9000 and ISO 14 000 standards) thus alluding the guaranteed quality. Mentioned type of the ISO standards, so far, refer to management certification to support quality. It should therefore be made clear that undergoing a certification process does not necessarily promise all quality, or the quality expected by the individual customer at a given time. Certification does not intervene in the quality level. This is established by the company itself. It does not even provide for management excellence. Certification is therefore a starting point of a whole process aiming streamlining a company´s operations and subsequently rewarding it with a quality product.
