Abstract

In the world of addressing mental health for students, caring for others who are emotionally stressed or distressed may create a stressful environment for educators and/or any mental health practitioner. Now more than ever, the COVID-19 crisis has transformed and changed the lives and practices of educators and has brought to the forefront the ever-growing need for time-efficient self-care. Across the board, educators have seen an increase in anxiety. The anxiety among humans is practically universal—nearly every individual worldwide is experiencing some negative impact on their mental health. Recent research suggested that individuals in the mental health profession have reported increased levels or symptoms of anxiety, depression, stress, and burnout. It is time to recognize the signs of psychosocial distress and potential burnout in order to have prolonged longevity in the field. Self-care is a vital resource to educators and mental health practitioners.
