While ubiquitous in the human realm, seduction remains relatively untouched by academia. Regarding seduction as a natural part of the romantic/sexual process, but with a touch of deceit, the Editors expand the discourse with a variety of approaches: political, philosophical, psychological, and artistic; through a collection of academic essays that promote deeper understanding of the concept and depict the theoretical and conceptual potential in opening new avenues of reflection and discussion from interdisciplinary viewpoints.
– Protoview Reviews
Organized into three main sections, this collection of essays outlines theories and provides examples of seduction in these three disciplinary realms. Written by a selection of scholars primarily from Brazil and Portugal, but with representation from the United Kingdom, Japan, and Turkey, the works that serve as foundations for the essays come from the relevant disciplines’ canons. Psychology-focused essays cite Freud and Jung; Plato, Hegel, and Derrida represent philosophy; and we see references to sociologists Baudrillard and Schor.
