There is no doubt that modern life is bombarded with new technologies and this is likely will increase dramatically in the near future. Both humankind and millions of other species share the Earth. Animal Computer Interaction (ACI) and Human Computer Interaction (HCI) are multidisciplinary areas of research, reflecting the complicated nature of animal or human interaction with computer systems.

With the arrival of driverless cars, drones, wearables, implantables, and an ecology of embedded devices and services in the everyday environment, there is a need to provide comprehensive coverage and understanding of the issues associated with the use, design, evaluation, implementation and ethics of mobile technologies associated with ACI and HCI.

This special issue will focus on the congruence of ACI and HCI in modern life in order to highlight important issues in the design of effective interactive systems for all species. Convergence of ACI and HCI focuses on applications whereby animals and humans are simultaneously engaged through new technology to enhance their communication. The difficulties arising from real-world implementation of such mobiles technologies will continue to expose new research challenges.

This special issue is looking to attract articles that report methodologically robust research that presents new concepts or empirical approaches as well as review papers that provide an up-to-date overview of the congruence of these research fields. Articles might describe novel applications of mobile HCI/ACI, highlighting cutting-edge research that can emerge from the engagement between mobile HCI and ACI.
