Introduction

Social learning analytics uses data analytics techniques and methods to understand and improve social learning processes. It involves collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data from social interactions, discussions, and collaborations within learning environments, such as online communities, social media platforms, or collaborative learning spaces. Social Learning Analytics aims to gain insights into how learners engage with each other, share knowledge, collaborate, and collectively construct meaning to enhance the effectiveness of social learning experiences. By leveraging data from social interactions, social learning analytics aims to inform instructional design, facilitate personalized learning, and support the development of social learning interventions and strategies. Collaborative learning is a teaching and learning approach that emphasizes active participation, cooperation, and interaction among students. Students collaborate in groups or teams to solve problems, complete projects, discuss ideas and learn from each other's perspectives. Collaborative learning holds significance in education across various vital aspects. Cooperative learning promotes more profound understanding and knowledge retention. Through active engagement in discussions and interactions, students can clarify their understanding, explore different viewpoints, and consolidate their learning. According to Lee & Yang (2023), the main finding of their study indicates that students' perspectives on practical collaborative learning tasks align with classic motivational research, specifically in terms of efficacy and autonomy. The study reveals that students find collaboration enjoyable and beneficial when they perceive the tasks as meaningful and have a sense of control and independence in their learning process. It implies that collaborative tasks' perceived value and relevance and the opportunity for students to exercise autonomy are crucial factors in facilitating compelling collective learning experiences. The study underscores the practical importance of these findings by providing actionable recommendations for designing collaborative learning tasks that foster motivation and engagement.

It also suggests that combining research on educational design and classical motivational theory on collaborative learning could lead to a more robust theoretical base, improving suggestions for putting collaboration into practice in real classrooms.
