Content-based recommender system is a subclass of information systems that recommends an item to the user based on its description. It suggests items such as news, documents, articles, webpages, journals, and more to users as per their inclination by comparing the key features of the items with key terms or features of user interest profiles. This paper proposes the new methodology using Non-IIDness based semantic term-term coupling from the content referred by users to enhance recommendation results. In the proposed methodology, the semantic relationship is analyzed by estimating the explicit and implicit relationship between terms. It associates terms that are semantically related in real world or are used inter-changeably such as synonyms. The underestimated features of user profiles have been enhanced after term-term relation analysis which results in improved similarity estimation of relevant items with the user profiles.The experimentation result proves that the proposed methodology improves the overall search and retrieval results as compared to the state-of-art algorithms.

The cost-effective and easy availability of handheld mobile devices and ubiquity of location acquisition services such as GPS and GSM networks has helped expedient logging and sharing of location histories of mobile users. This work aims to find semantic user similarity using their past travel histories. Application of the semantic similarity measure can be found in tourism-related recommender systems and information retrieval. The paper presents Earth Mover’s Distance (EMD) based semantic user similarity measure using users' GPS logs. The similarity measure is applied and evaluated on the GPS dataset of 182 users collected from April 2007 to August 2012 by Microsoft's GeoLife project. The proposed similarity measure is compared with conventional similarity measures used in literature such as Jaccard, Dice, and Pearsons’ Correlation. The percentage improvement of EMD based approach over existing approaches in terms of average RMSE is 10.70%, and average MAE is 5.73%.

In this digital era, people are very keen to share their feedback about any product, services, or current issues on social networks and other platforms. A fine analysis of these feedbacks can give a clear picture of what people think about a particular topic. This work proposed an almost unsupervised Aspect Based Sentiment Analysis approach for textual reviews. Latent Dirichlet Allocation, along with linguistic rules, is used for aspect extraction. Aspects are ranked based on their probability distribution values and then clustered into predefined categories using frequent terms with domain knowledge. SentiWordNet lexicon uses for sentiment scoring and classification. The experiment with two popular datasets shows the superiority of our strategy as compared to existing methods. It shows the 85% average accuracy when tested on manually labeled data.

This paper introduces a new approach of hybrid meta-heuristics based optimization technique for decreasing the computation time of the shortest paths algorithm. The problem of finding the shortest paths is a combinatorial optimization problem which has been well studied from various fields. The number of vehicles on the road has increased incredibly. Therefore, traffic management has become a major problem. We study the traffic network in large scale routing problems as a field of application. The meta-heuristic we propose introduces new hybrid genetic algorithm named IOGA. The problem consists of finding the k optimal paths that minimizes a metric such as distance, time, etc. Testing was performed using an exact algorithm and meta-heuristic algorithm on random generated network instances. Experimental analyses demonstrate the efficiency of our proposed approach in terms of runtime and quality of the result. Empirical results obtained show that the proposed algorithm outperforms some of the existing technique in term of the optimal solution in every generation.

Wikipedia is known for its extensive and comprehensive knowledge of multifarious topics. These topics are maintained as articles along with a history of versions of these articles, these versions are also known as revisions. Revisions are the results of edits made by various users. Here, the authors analyze biographical Wikipedia articles, mainly biographies that have a movie based on them re- leased after the year 2010. The authors look at the impact of the movie release on its corresponding biography article on Wikipedia by looking at various metrics of each revision in a Wikipedia article and analyze how the revisions closer to the movie’s release date compare with the rest of the revisions. The results show that quality and content in Wikipedia articles increases significantly during the release time frame of corresponding biopics. The authors believe their work will stimulate more research in the direction of understanding Wikipedia’s relationship with its allied portals.

Frequency of malware attacks because Android apps are increasing day by day. Current studies have revealed startling facts about data harvesting incidents, where user’s personal data is at stake. To preserve privacy of users, a permission induced risk interface MalApp to identify privacy violations rising from granting permissions during app installation is proposed. It comprises of multi-fold process that performs static analysis based on app’s category. First, concept of reverse engineering is applied to extract app permissions to construct a Boolean-valued permission matrix. Second, ranking of permissions is done to identify the risky permissions across category. Third, machine learning and ensembling techniques have been incorporated to test the efficacy of the proposed approach on a data set of 404 benign and 409 malicious apps. The empirical studies have identified that our proposed algorithm gives a best case malware detection rate of 98.33%. The highlight of interface is that any app can be classified as benign or malicious even before running it using static analysis.

The size of Wikipedia grows exponentially every year, due to which users face the problem of information overload. We purpose a remedy to this problem by developing a recommendation system for Wikipedia articles. The proposed technique automatically generates a personalized synopsis of the article that a user aims to read next. We develop a tool, called PerSummRe, which learns the reading preferences of a user through a vision-based analysis of his/her past reads. We use an ensemble non-invasive eye gaze tracking technique to analyze user’s reading pattern. This tool performs user profiling and generates a recommended personalized summary of yet unread Wikipedia article for a user. Experimental results showcase the efficiency of the recommendation technique.

Social media allows people to share their ideologue through an efficient channel of communication. The social dialogues carry sentiment in expression regarding a particular social profile, trend, or topic. In our research, we have collected real-time user comments and feedbacks from Twitter portals of two food delivery services. This is followed by the extraction of the most prevalent contexts using natural language analytics. Further, our proposed algorithmic framework is used to generate a signed social network to analyze the product-centric behavioral sentiment. Analysis of sentiment with the fine-grained level about contexts gave a broader view to evaluate and perform contextual predictions. Customer behavior is analyzed, and the outcome is received in terms of positive and negative contexts. The results from our social behavioral model predicted the positive and negative contextual sentiments of customers, which can be further used to help in deciding future strategies and assuring service quality for better customer satisfaction.

A news recommendation system not only must recommend the latest, trending, and personalized news to the users but also give opportunity to know about the people's opinion on trending news. Most of the existing news recommendation systems focus on recommending news articles based on user-specific tweets. In contrast to these recommendation systems, the proposed Personalized News and Tweet Recommendation System (PNTRS) recommends tweets based on the recommended article. It firstly generates news recommendation based on user's interest and twitter profile using the Multinomial Naïve Bayes (MNB) classifier. Further, the system uses these recommended articles to recommend various trending tweets using fuzzy inference system. Additionally, feedback-based learning is applied to improve the efficiency of the proposed recommendation system. The user feedback rating is taken to evaluate the satisfaction level, and it is 7.9 on the scale of 10.

Why-type non-factoid questions are ambiguous and involve variations in their answers. A challenge in returning one appropriate answer to user requires the process of appropriate answer extraction, re-ranking and validation. There are cases where the need is to understand the meaning and context of a document rather than finding exact words involved in question. The paper addresses this problem by exploring lexico-syntactic, semantic and contextual query-dependent features, some of which are based on deep learning frameworks to depict the probability of answer candidate being relevant for the question. The features are weighted by the score returned by ensemble ExtraTreesClassifier according to features importance. An answer re-ranker model is implemented that finds the highest ranked answer comprising largest value of feature similarity between question and answer candidate and thus achieving 0.64 Mean Reciprocal Rank (MRR). Further, answer is validated by matching the answer type of answer candidate and returns the highest ranked answer candidate with matched answer type to a user.

This paper presents design and experiments for a production line monitoring system. The system is designed based on an existing production line which mapping to the smart grid standards. The Discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and regression neural network (RNN) are applied to the operation modes data analysis. DWT used to preprocess the signals to remove noise from the raw signals. The output of DWT energy distribution has given as an input to the GRNN model. The neural network GRNN architecture involves multi-layer structures. Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) loss has used in the GRNN model, which is used to forecast the time-series data. Current research results can only apply to the single production line but in future, it will used for multiple production lines.
