Gamification is a new trend that focuses on applying game mechanics to non-game contexts in order to motivate and engage users in several activities and processes. While many fields such as E-learning, Business, and Marketing have taken advantage of the potential of gamification, the healthcare domain has also started to exploit this emerging trend, still in an ad-hoc fashion.

Despite the huge potential of applying gamification on several topics of healthcare, there are scarce theoretical studies regarding methodologies, techniques, specifications, and frameworks. Nevertheless, there are several testimonials of apps that addressed with partial success (short-term engagement mostly through extrinsic rewards) the solving of major healthcare-related challenges, such as care plan maintenance, medication adherence, phobias treatment or patient education.

The book aims to gather all this knowledge and build the theoretical foundations which can be helpful to build sustainable and addicting e-Health solutions in the near future.


The proposed book aims to share new approaches and methodologies to build e-health solutions using gamification. At the same time, it identifies new trends on this topic from pedagogical strategies to technological approaches.

Submission Procedure

Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before April 19, 2020, a chapter proposal of 1,000 to 2,000 words clearly explaining the mission and concerns of his or her proposed chapter. The authors will be notified by April 21, 2020, about the status of their proposals and sent chapter guidelines. Full chapters are expected to be submitted by July 31, 2020, and all interested authors must consult the guidelines for manuscript submissions at prior to submission. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this project.

Note: There are no submission or acceptance fees for manuscripts submitted to this book publication, Solving Modern Healthcare Challenges with Gamification. All manuscripts are accepted based on a double-blind peer review editorial process.
