Introduction

In a time of precipitous change due to rapid technological advancements, evolving workplace structures, and a global shift towards remote work, the nature of work is undergoing a profound transformation influencing communication, work dynamics, and learning process (Murdoch & Fichter, 2017; Tang & Salamzadeh, 2023). As we stand at this critical junction, revitalising the skills is no longer just a matter of staying relevant but a necessity, especially with the growing prevalence of work-skill misalignment and employability skills gaps (Nair et al., 2020; Donald et al., 2023; Holidi & Seman 2023). This major shift has highlighted the importance for educational institutions worldwide to prepare students for the digital world by providing them with advanced knowledge and essential skills (Mariah & Sari; 2019; McCarthy, 2019; Dean, 2023; Kilag et al., 2023; Urhan, 2023). How can educators strategically and proactively navigate and harness the inherent challenges and advantages in revitalising skills, aligning with the dynamic demands of the contemporary work environment, and shaping a future workforce for the evolving landscape of work?’ The book “Revitalizing Student Skills to Meet Demands of Future Work”, delves into the intricacies of the evolving and complex professional landscape, unravelling multifaceted challenges and opportunities while emphasizing the pivotal role these skills play in shaping the workforce of tomorrow.

Objective

This book is designed to serve as a comprehensive guide, introducing innovative educational approaches tailored for students seeking to revitalise and adapt their skills in response to the complex challenges posed by contemporary work environments. It aims to contribute to and advance ongoing research by focusing on key skill areas essential for future work scenarios including digital proficiency, remote work competence, mastery of soft skills, innovative thinking, proficiency in project management, cognitive flexibility, cultural intelligence, and the development of social and emotional intelligence (Celuch et al., 2014; Short & Keller-Bell, 2019; McGunagle & Zizka, 2020; Rios et al., 2020; García-Pérez et al., 2021; Nafea & Toplu, 2021; Aydiner et al., 2023). The book aims to provide a holistic understanding of these key skills, thereby empowering students to thrive in the ever-evolving professional landscape while making a substantial contribution to research in the field.

Submission Procedure

Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before March 3, 2024, a chapter proposal of 1,000 to 2,000 words clearly explaining the mission and concerns of his or her proposed chapter. Authors will be notified by March 17, 2024 about the status of their proposals and sent chapter guidelines.Full chapters are expected to be submitted by May 26, 2024, and all interested authors must consult the guidelines for manuscript submissions at https://www.igi-global.com/publish/contributor-resources/before-you-write/ prior to submission. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this project.

Note: There are no submission or acceptance fees for manuscripts submitted to this book publication, Revitalizing Student Skills for Workforce Preparation. All manuscripts are accepted based on a double-blind peer review editorial process.
