Introduction

Women Transforming the Future of Higher Education explores the many roles that women in higher education take on and addresses women’s experiences as leaders, scholars, and administrators. The book will help to navigate the challenges that women face, break down barriers hindering their progress, and highlight womens’ pivotal role in shaping the future of higher education. From personal narratives to empirical studies, the publication provides a forward-thinking view of the evolving landscape and the transformative impact of women in academia.

Objective

This publication will make a significant contribution to the research community by providing a varied and nuanced understanding of the challenges and gains that women experience in the academy. By offering feminist insights and showcasing examples of women leading change, the book will become a valuable resource for researchers, scholars, and policymakers interested in gender equity, leadership, and the evolving dynamics of higher education. It fosters a deeper appreciation for the diverse perspectives that women bring to academia and encourages further research on gender-related issues in educational settings.

This book is expected to address a variety of topics relative to womens’ transformative activities in higher education including (but not limited to): Gendered challenges in academia: Analyses of specific challenges that women face in academia, including bias, stereotypes, and barriers to career progression (such as pay inequity, workplace harassment); Intersectionality in Higher Education: Explorations of race, ethnicity, sexuality, and socioeconomic status intersect with gender in shaping the experiences of women in academia; Leadership Narratives: Personal stories and reflections of women leaders in academia, detailing their journeys, challenges, and successes; The Impact of Feminist Pedagogy: Reflections on how feminist teaching philosophies and practices influence the learning environment and contribute to a more inclusive educational experience; Mentorship and Sponsorship: Accounts of the role of mentorship and sponsorship in supporting women's career development and addressing the gender gap in academic leadership; Innovative Approaches to Teaching and Research: Ideas and proposals on how women contribute to innovative teaching methods, research methodologies, and the overall academic discourse. Action plans to support Indigenous research that contributes to reconciliation ; Research identifying the systemic barriers faced by individuals from underrepresented groups (e.g., women, persons with disabilities, Indigenous Peoples, racialized minorities, individuals from the LGBTQ2+ community) and advancing impactful measures to address these barriers; The impacts of technology, AI and innovation: The intended or unintended consequences of these technological advances as they relate to larger themes of gender equality.

Submission Procedure

Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before May 5, 2024, a chapter proposal of 1,000 to 2,000 words clearly explaining the mission and concerns of his or her proposed chapter. Authors will be notified by May 24, 2024 about the status of their proposals and sent chapter guidelines.Full chapters are expected to be submitted by June 23, 2024, and all interested authors must consult the guidelines for manuscript submissions at https://www.igi-global.com/publish/contributor-resources/before-you-write/ prior to submission. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this project.

Note: There are no submission or acceptance fees for manuscripts submitted to this book publication, Women Transforming the Future of Higher Education. All manuscripts are accepted based on a double-blind peer review editorial process.
