Introduction

This book provides a comprehensive understanding of the cognitive biases, emotional motivations, and brain processes that influence our decision-making in relation to health and healthcare. It achieves this by integrating knowledge from behavioural economics and neuroeconomics. By using concrete instances from reality and applying them practically, this book clarifies the methods for enhancing health results and influencing healthcare policies to be more efficient.

Objective

The main objective of this book is to offer readers a comprehensive comprehension of how human behaviour influences decisions linked to health and healthcare. The book aims to accomplish five primary goals by combining principles from behavioural economics and neuroeconomics: 1. Examine the cognitive biases, emotional factors, and social influences that have a substantial impact on influencing health behaviours and the use of healthcare services. 2. Explore the fundamental neurological processes that contribute to decision-making related to health, providing significant knowledge on the biological basis of human behaviour. 3. Provide tangible implementations and empirically supported tactics designed to encourage healthier habits, enhance patient involvement, and optimise healthcare provision. 4. Inform politicians, healthcare professionals, and individuals about the extensive consequences of behavioural economics and neuroeconomics for the creation of successful health interventions and policies. 5. Promote cross-disciplinary communication and cooperation among academics, practitioners, and policymakers to address intricate health issues and strive for enhanced public health results on a larger scope.
