Reviews and Testimonials

In this work for students, scholars, and practitioners, international contributors in policy analysis, political science, journalism, digital media, and new media and politics examine the use of technology in political campaigns. Two early chapters by editor Solo define the new interdisciplinary fields of political engineering, public policy engineering, and computational politics. Cases explored include social media and political public relations of Portuguese political parties in 2008, political parties’ web sites in the 2009 European Parliament elections, new media shaping democracy in Poland, microblogging and the news, and the US Republican Party’s online campaigns.

Chapters on computational politics report on the use of information technology for studying political campaigns, such as the use of graph theory software for political discourse, and type-two fuzzy logic for quantitatively defining imprecise linguistic terms in politics and public policy.
