Reading promotion is a key service of the public library. This article investigates the current state of reading promotion in public libraries in China. There were 86 public libraries chosen as a sample. The research finds that Chinese libraries have been paying more and more attention to the importance of reading promotion. A variety of reading promotion services and programs are being carried out, including reading festivals, booklists, reading contests, reading communication and lectures on reading. Public libraries tend to apply more towards the digital platform when promoting reading. Public libraries have cooperated with NGO and business fields to promote reading. This study suggests more can be done to improve the service, including improving the librarian's knowledge of genre books, enhancing reading communication, deeply investigating measurement of reading promotion, and the influence of contracting out reading programs.

It is very important to study public library services available to migrant workers, which have the potential to enrich public library services and promote social equity. After analyzing the present situation and characteristics of migrant workers in China, this article takes the services for migrant workers offered by Hangzhou Public Library as an example and explores the best ways to service migrant workers in public libraries, including how to further break down the obstacles to service, how to expand the mode of service, and how to make a greater effort to optimize the growth environment of migrant workers and promote their integration into urban cultural life in the future.

This article provides a brief summary of the development of topic-related multidimensional reading services in academic libraries in China. The authors mainly introduce the methods and practices that Tongji University Library has developed for this type of service. The authors also include a briefing about a multidimensional reading service event called “Reading the city Jinling - the Red Mansions” which was hosted by Nanjing Agriculture University Library in 2017. Theoretical and practical explorations suggest that academic libraries could integrate more resources from different areas to promote a deeper understanding of reading, and to make more contributions to knowledge transformation and innovation in China.

In order to make reading promotion more professional and qualified, some libraries and associations in China are training reading promoters. The Pudong Library of Shanghai is a typical case. This article summarizes the theory and the practice of reading promoter training, and discusses the operation offered by Pudong Library. It also concludes the achievements, innovations and the characteristics of the training, and further provides the developmental directions of the training. Characteristic development is a process of intentionally solidifying and cultivating something's uniqueness. This article analyzes the uniqueness of university library cultural services in comparison with those provided by other service institutions. Furthermore, this article reveals the differences between cultural services and other types of library services. Based on these analyses, this constructive research finds a way to achieve cultural services' characteristic development by taking service factors as the breakthrough point. The main strategies include building a professional service team, focusing on user demands, constructing characteristic resources, optimizing service spaces and facilities, and upgrading service brands; all of these strategies should be developed round the issue of culture. Finally, corresponding to the above strategies, this paper article the measures and effects of Wuhan University Library cultural services to share their experience.

The Liaoning Provincial Library is one of the largest and most well-functional libraries. It has the largest building area and provides abundant services to the public. The Liaoning Provincial Library mainly provides readers with reading, learning, activities, innovative space services, offers creative spaces, studios, and other service spaces. In the past two years, over 4 million visited the library, and the library has held more than 2,500 activities, and has gained new experience in areas such as service philosophies, service contents, service strategies, and service guarantees. In the future, the authors still need to figure out how to integrate the interactions of multi-space usages inside and outside the library, how to express and transmit the multiple attributes and innovative areas of the public library, how to balance between organizational functions and government functions, and how to achieve the function of creative incubation using thinking and exploration practices.
