Did you ever find the news to be negative and somewhat depressing overall? Well, you're not alone. Perhaps there is a way to begin to eradicate evil through an unexpected avenue. Some individuals believe in a higher power to inevitably save humankind, but perhaps science is the starting point to save humanity.
According to Prof. Stephen Schafer, "Real life can also be studied as dreams that have their basis in neuro-physics—what Jung called archetypes and analyzed digitally as archetypal representations (very similar to creating images with pixels)."
Prof. Schafer, principal lecturer and past chairman of the Humanities & Social Sciences Department at Digipen Institute of Technology, is the editor of the title Exploring the Collective Unconscious in the Age of Digital Media. His research interests have been focused on communications research relating to media influence on cultural transformation. He teaches an array of classes that emphasize mythology, symbolism and Jungian psychological dynamics of dream interpretation in order to train game-story writers to apply the principles to interactive narrative.
Schafer mentions "As Dr. Aurelio Peccei observed, Interestingly, we now have the scientific understanding of how to generate better human beings. The key to harmony is coherent psychological states as researched by the
Institute of Heartmath. Coherence is a psychological-electromagnetic phenomenon that can be fostered and reinforced in multiple fields such as education, healthcare, commerce, video games, and the media-sphere at large through harmonious design of virtual realities."
An example of how psychological research is already being used to change or manipulate human thinking is through advertising. A quick stroll down the aisle of a grocery store provides an example of how the color and placement of items speak to the consumer.
Political ads also play on emotions and are effective in using psychology to influence others.
"The ethics established by the environmental movement can be reinforced, but in the long-haul success depends on living in an entirely different way that can be summed up in two words: harmlessness & simplicity. Recycling is a small example of how our mindsets can be changed, but ultimately changing unconscious archetypal patterns will require 'a fundamental restructuring of human reality perceptions.' This can be accomplished in many ways with the use of Media-sphere content as biofeedback in order to reinforce such strategic efforts as unimpeded economic flow, decentralization of human populations, eradication of all forms of poisoning, and—eventually--eradication of all forms of perceived separation such as racial, religious, and political,” explains Schafer.
Considering how brain manipulation has been used throughout history as theological dogma, peer pressure, propaganda and now technological neuro-marketing in the mass media, it is now possible to employ the same cognitive dynamics to social engineering in order to create a better future.
According to Schafer, "We already have the technology to do this, but fighting against the 'vampires' depends first on generalized recognition of their evil intent and second on redesigning archetypes of the collective unconscious and their mediated archetypal representations. The mechanisms for such redesign already exist in multiple fields. The most direct mechanism is to create Psychology video games (PEG) that can reinforce psychological coherence based on player choices that lead to game-wins correlated with coherent
values."
