Tomei In 2019, IGI Global will be unveiling multiple inaugural journals that range in topics from cyber-physical systems to leadership and decision-making. Dr. Lawrence Tomei from Robert Morris University, who is the Editor-in-Chief of one of these journals, the International Journal of Cyber Research and Education, recently took some time to share details regarding his professional experience as well as his vision for the journal.

What are your areas of expertise?

Born in Akron, Ohio, I earned a BSBA from the University of Akron (1972) and entered the US Air Force, serving until my retirement as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1994. I completed my MPA and MEd at the University of Oklahoma (1975, 1978) and EdD from USC (1983). My research areas range from cyber security to online and distance education. Here is a full list:
  • Cyber Security, Forensics Science and Technologies
  • Instructional Technology
  • Educational Psychology
  • Challenges of Teaching with Technology
  • Online and Distance Education
  • Taxonomy for the Technology Domain
  • The Technology Façade
My articles and books on instructional technology include the following IGI Global titles: Challenges of Teaching with Technology Across the Curriculum (2003), and Taxonomy for the Technology Domain (2005).

IJCRE
What lead to your decision of becoming the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Cyber Research and Education?

As the new Director of the Robert Morris University Center for Cyber Research and Training (CCRT), we are already gathering an impressive cadre of professionals from the academic, corporate, law enforcement, and government (including military) communities. We envision that this new journal will band these communities together to address all manner of topics related to cyber. As a previous IGI Global Editor-In-Chief of the IGI Global’s International Journal of Information Communication and Technology Education (IJICTE) for 14 years, I saw an opportunity to pass along a reputable and successful publication to other professionals and take on the mantle of Editor-in-Chief of another journal of such importance in today's information communication technology (ICT) community.

What sort of research will the journal cover? Are there any topics in particular?

The IJCRE publishes empirical research that enhances insight and contributes to the better understanding of matters pertaining to the advancement of cyber security, cybercrime, digital evidence, forensics and forensic science and technologies, and law enforcement in a digital world. Empirical methods include qualitative, quantitative, field, and laboratory, and a mixture of these methods is encouraged as well.

Who will benefit most from this research?

(1) Faculty, students, cyber experts, and corporate professional will be invited to contribute not only research-based papers, but case studies and white papers that will introduce new perspectives of this rapidly-changing discipline.

(2) The IJCRE will create a compendium of cyber and criminal justice-related literature proposed, investigated, and vetted by scholarly researchers.

(3) The journal will provide much needed scholarly literature resources that advance the state-of-the-art research and educational best practices. Such literature will serve to expand the discipline and foster future scholarship at all levels.

Why should researchers contribute to this journal? Also, what can readers expect moving forward?

We expect a network of interested readers from four communities (academia, corporate, law enforcement, and government) to contribute and subscribe to the journal in order to receive the latest in cyber updates and thought.

We are aiming to utilize the IGI Global community and publication avenue to alert current readers and subscribers to the first inaugural issue of the IJCRE. Additionally, we will be identifying academic programs that have integrated cyber and law enforcement into their curriculum and offer a special introductory subscription rate to these academic institutions

IGI Global is excited to witness the future success of this inaugural journal. Upon release, make sure to recommend the International Journal of Cyber Research and Education to your acquisitions librarian. If you are interested in submitting a paper to this journal, please click here.
