Seeking New Open Access Publication Projects for 2022 and 2023

By IGI Global Open Access Division on Nov 22, 2021
Open Access LockWe at IGI Global have been committed to open science for several years now, first starting with hybrid open access publishing models for all our books and journals and then in January 2021, converting 30 of our hybrid subscription-based journals to full gold open access (OA). In January 2022, 30 more of our journals will convert to gold OA, leading to more than 35% of our journal collection publishing fully open. Additionally, we have also been actively launching several brand new Gold OA journals and now, we are looking to also add full gold OA books to our open access repertoire as well.

Welcoming OA Book and Journal Projects
We are currently accepting proposals for OA book projects for the 2022 copyright year (books published between July 1, 2021 and June 30, 2022) and the 2023 copyright year (books published between July 1, 2022 and June 30, 2023), along with proposals for diamond/platinum OA journals (journals with full OA funding secured) for 2023 inauguration consideration.
Benefits of OA Publishing
Open access models remove subscription pricing and permission barriers and garner a larger audience; including those who could not previously access this valuable emerging research. As a result, OA publications benefit from a higher level of visibility and exposure, leading to an 89% increase in usage and citation impact.
  • Research is Fully Free and Accessible to All (Creative Commons BY License)
  • Rigorous and Expediate Publishing Process
  • Increased Discoverability of Published Content
  • Acceleration of Citation Impact
  • Increased Indexing Potential
  • Greater Visibility and Wider Recognition
  • Opportunities for Networking and Collaboration
  • Supports Overall Career Advancement
  • Supports the Open Science Movement
IGI Global OA publishing offers authors the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) licensing arrangement. The copyright for the work remains solely with the author(s) of the article. Others may distribute, remix, tweak, and build upon the work of the original author, even commercially, so long as they credit the author for the original creation.
OA Processing Charges and Funding
OA books and journals have the same rigorous double-blind peer review process, level of evaluation, and editorial and production support as our traditional publications. Processing charges are requested for OA publishing that cover all the costs to produce the work (e.g. digital tools, editorial support, typesetting, formatting, and layout, online hosting, promotional support, and submission to various indexing and abstracting databases, etc.) due to the fact that no revenue would be generated for the publication as it would be published under CC BY 4.0 licensing and therefore there would be no paywall to access the content.
Multiple funding sources can be secured for OA funding, and oftentimes universities, associations/societies, etc. come together to fund the OA for a book or journal. Full visibility and recognition will be given to these funding sources in a multitude of places including in the book materials and all promotional communications and pieces for the book. It is recommended to consider IGI Global’s Open Access Fee Waiver (Read & Publish) Initiative, and we encourage prospective authors and editors to visit this page to see if they are eligible for full or partial OA funding support for their publishing endeavors.
