In its tenth year, Open Access Week continues to be an opportunity for the academic and research communities to learn about the benefits of and new horizons of open access.
This year, Open Access Week ran from October 25
th to October 31
st with the theme: “It Matters How We Open Knowledge: Building Structural Equity”. The theme was based off UNESCO’s (The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) Recommendation on Open Science, which is expected to define shared values and principles for open science and identify concrete measures on open access and open data, with proposals to bring citizens closer to science and commitments to facilitate the production and dissemination of scientific knowledge around the world. The recommendation from UNESCO states that the importance of equity in pursuing a future for scholarship can be open by default.
