Seeking Inaugural 2023 Open Access Journals

By IGI Global Scientific Publishing on Aug 30, 2021
IGI Global is currently accepting proposals for Gold Open Access (OA) and Diamond/Platinum Open Access (OA) journals for 2023 inauguration consideration. Open access models remove subscription pricing and permission barriers and garner a larger audience; including those who could not previously access this valuable emerging research. As a result, OA publications benefit from a higher level of visibility and exposure, leading to an 89% increase in usage and citation impact.

Benefits of Open Access Publishing
IGI Global’s open access publishing program provides a plethora of opportunities for researchers and academicians of all backgrounds and regions to publish content openly in the highest quality and swiftest manner possible. Because the content is published under Creative Commons Licensing authors are able to share their published content freely among the research community. Their published work can be accessed without any paywall barriers (a benefit especially to those who would not be able to afford the content otherwise). IGI Global hopes to encourage the free spread of knowledge and emerging academic works through this inclusive model.
IGI Global offers unique services to those looking to launch an inaugural Gold OA or Diamond/Platinum OA journal, transfer an existing OA journal to be published under IGI Global, or convert an existing subscription-based journal to OA status.

Gold and Diamond/Platinum: Key Differences
The primary difference between Gold OA and Diamond/Platinum OA journals is that Diamond/Platinum OA journals have previously secured OA funding from a funding body or multiple funding bodies that work to offset the open access Article Processing Charge (APC) for the authors, whereas Gold OA journals do not have secured OA funding and as such would have an APC fee requested of the authors if their work is accepted following the double-blind peer review.
For journals that begin as Gold OA, IGI Global offers Editor(s)-in-Chief the option to upgrade their Gold OA journal to Diamond/Platinum status through the OA Fee Waiver (Read and Publish) Initiative, which provides an additional source of OA funding to institutions that invest in IGI Global’s e-Collections.
Submitting Your OA Journal Proposal
Whether you are looking to launch a completely new Gold OA or Diamond/Platinum OA journal or looking to transfer an existing journal to IGI Global, we invite you to submit a proposal based on the following criteria, which will be closely examined by our review panel before formalizing a decision:
  • New or existing journals should either already be partnered with an OA funding body (association, organization, institution, etc.) that can support with offsetting the Article Processing Charges (APCs) for authors OR be prepared to consider OA funding options after the journal has been firmly established.
  • Editor(s)-in-Chief (EiCs) should have a doctoral degree and have prior experience serving on editorial review boards and/or guest editing special issues.
  • EiCs should have well-established academic and professional networks that can be utilized to continuously garner submissions for the journal as well as ensure diversity of authorship.
  • EiCs should possess excellent time management skills and are expected to meet all editorial deadlines consistently.
  • A list of 30 potential editorial review board members should be prepared that showcases regional diversity and well-rounded expertise of the topic.
  • New journals should cover broad topics that have little to no coverage in the existing journal market.
  • Journals being considered for transfer should not be held under any formal publication agreements/contracts with
    other publishers
    .
If interested in publishing an open access journal with IGI Global, prospective Editor(s)-in-Chief or leaders of existing journals are invited to submit a new OA journal proposal form (for wholly new journals) or a transfer of existing journal form (if looking to transfer the journal from another publisher). If interested in submitting an article to an existing IGI Global journal, please find relevant journals on our Call for Papers page.
