Google Provides New E-Business Tools to Educators

By IGI Global on Feb 11, 2011
Google's wide selection of applications and products have long been helpful to individuals and businesses, and schools and universities are about to benefit as well. Google recently opened an Apps Marketplace for educators, and the marketplace is full of software that can be used and shared through school districts or college campuses. The apps can all be integrated with existing Google products such as Google Docs, Google Calendar, and Gmail.

The new set of apps currently includes 20 different applications such as grammar, spelling, and bibliography tools, as well as web-based grade book programs. Google has also said that the category will be expanding to include some major existing education tools like Blackboard. Many educators are tiring of their out-of-date software and believe that this new marketplace will lead to wider acceptance of newer tools that could improve interoperability and efficiency as well as introduce new elements like social networking. Education, and particularly higher education, is just one of many industries affected by advancing technologies. As these advancements move from e-business applications to other industries and organizations, a need for research into the effects of these technologies is necessary. IGI Global, an information science and technology publisher, is making great strides in fulfilling the need for this research, and is proud to present one of its newest releases, Impact of E-Business Technologies on Public and Private Organizations: Industry Comparisons and Perspectives, edited by Ozlem Bak, University of Brighton, UK; and Nola Stair, University of Greenwich, UK. This title assesses the impact of e-business technologies on different organizations, which include higher education institutions, multinational automotive corporations, and health providers. This publication integrates multiple theoretical perspectives on e-business technologies and presents industry-specific comparisons of new practices and trends, making it a comprehensive resource for professionals, students, and researchers.Impact of E-Business Technologies on Public and Private Organizations: Industry Comparisons and Perspectives

Dr. Bak and Dr. Stair, the editors of this reference, discuss the process of the book by saying that "the purpose of this book initially was twofold: to assess the impact of e-business, and to provide two distinctive angles between private and public organizations. However, having looked at our contributors coming from 10 different countries with a wide array of e-business applications and implications on diverse organizations, we decided to group them into industries, and within them provided a public and private division. We believe that the changes reflected in the edited book provided a [much] richer picture and a chest of resources with concepts which may have already been published in various journals, but many of the perspectives are new, which makes this book both suitable for practitioners and academics at the same time."
